My Internet connection broke down. Again. For the nth time today. And for countless of times ever since I signed up for this service. Because news flash - I'm using PLDT myDSL! Ugh! Allow me a few seconds to express my utter frustration and despair over such a hair-tearing event.
. . . . . . . . . . . .
There, it's done. I feel better now, thank you.
I have nothing against PLDT myDSL, mind you. I understand how difficult and expensive it must be to upgrade in one sitting all the telephone wires and connections just to come up with a better service. It is just that it's really quite a headache to have one's Internet connection get disconnected every 5 minutes or so. Or to pay for a plan that promises a 512 kbps speed and only get a meager half of that. I have tried similar services with other companies before and I've never had these kinds of problem.
The disconnection isn't an everyday thing, however, but whenever it strikes its fancy, it goes careening for the rest of the day and sometimes even up to the next day. I would have been ready to get resigned to that unfortunate occurrence if no data were lost in the process. There were times, however, when say, I was in the middle of posting a sensible comment worthy enough for a brilliant post written by Jan when suddenly my connection's gone and along with it was the comment that I so painstakingly thought of and wrote. I don't know where it went to, but it got lost somewhere between clicking the "publish your comment" button and that bad disconnection. So then I had to remember the words again and retype it. After, of course, having figured out how to get back the connection, which actually, I don't all of the times, because I am such a techno-weenie when it comes to these things. My constant solution: a holler to my husband that goes along these lines: "Hey, honey, Internet connection's gone again!". Thank God for techno-geek husbands!
What's half as bad is the fact that when you call customer service, they themselves don't know what the problem is. They make you go through all these processes wherein you type and click on your computer which, judging by their evasive answers to my questions on the necessity of going through all that, I'm pretty sure they don't even understand. But the real odd thing is, while I'm doing all of that, my Internet connection miraculously gets back again. That cycle became constant that we finally discovered a technique. As weird as this may sound, when the Internet connection's gone, all we needed to do was dial the customer service number and let it ring for a couple of minutes. Just let it ring! We needn't wait for someone to answer it because the connection gets back again with just those rings.
Now, when the connection's all restored, you'd think everything's okay. Well, no, it isn't, because another problem crops up. This time, it goes on selective browsing. I can't access some of the web sites I want to see. Even old reliable Amazon.com is out of reach. I would have to wait for several minutes before I'd finally be able to open these sites. Ask help from customer service? Oh, don't bother! They'll just make you go through all that typing and clicking again that seems to have no end. Or worse, they'd ask you if you did type correctly the correct domain name!
I'd be stuck with this service for still close to a year because of a contract. I could now decide to change provider, of course, but that would mean having to pay a hefty fee of some sort for not keeping the contract for a full year. And being the cheapskate that I am, I don't think I'll be able to sleep knowing that several bucks just went down the drain. So, I am going to grin, and bear this for the rest of this year. Hopefully, I'd be able to continue doing that if my previous patience is anything to go by. And as long as I'd manage not to tear my hair out in the process, I think I'll be okay.

Oh, that sucks, Dee. I'm glad you're writing about it so other potential customers might be warned. It sounds like PLDT is giving a really bad service. I don't remember where I read something similar, but I have. Meanwhile, don't tear out your hair.
I can relate to your frustration. I have tried Globe and Bayantel and they are just awful. I think the reliability of the connection depends on the area coz some are good and some are bad. Well, I hope it gets better for you soon.
By the way, thanks for the comment on my site =) Want to exchange links?
Ah, life...
If it's any consolation, there's no other ISP that will make you happy.
Hi Dee, i heard complaints re PLDT MyDSL that's why I'm having second thoughts of availing that service.
Pero bka ngayon lang naman yan, minsan ok naman di ba?
Anyway, thanks for adding me up! will add you when I sign in later ha! I've a meeting to attend to kasi e. I added you na to my Favorites para maalala ko site mo. Have a nice day!
Wow! that must be frustrating on you. I don't know anything about PLDT or DSL, but the way you wrote your complaints, I can tell, they suck! Hehehe. Well, I get disconnected too sometimes, and I had to wait for at least 3-4 minutes before it comes back again. And it does make me angry and want to just pull my hair out especially if I have lost a long comment that I just wrote and can't remember all the words, that when I have to rewrite it, it won't be as good as it was. Wala yatang service na di nadidisconnet.. Patience, you have 10 more months to go, aray ku!
Oh no!!Ang hirap naman nyan!Buti na lang naisulat mo ang stress mo sa kanila para mabahala ang PLDT!
Have a nice day,Dee!^_^
@Karmi: Hi Karmi! Haha. That's witty. It made me smile. When we signed up for this service, we never made research. The house came with a PLDT land line so to avoid hassles, we just took their Internet package. We've tried Bayantel before and we've never encountered any problem. Yes, I will not tear my hair out. Not anymore ;).
@SimplyHappyMe: Hi :). Yes, maybe it depends on the area. Maybe the infrastructures where we live now are old ones. I heard that they're really trying to update everything. It's really not a one sitting thing and takes time. It's just that it could get frustrating at times.
Thanks for visiting too. Sure, I'd love to exchange links. I'll add you to my blog roll. If there's anything I can do regarding the links, just tell me. Thanks and have a nice day! :)
@Tonex: Hi Tonex! Oh, life indeed. Thanks for the words of wisdom. It made things more sensible. :)
@Elizabeth: Hi Beth! Oh, yes, a lot of times it works just fine but there are really days when out of the blue it simply keeps on disconnecting, and that would run like for hours, even days. I've never ever encountered these problems with other ISP providers, so it really gets on the nerves sometimes. But other than that, it's okay.
Oh, thanks a lot Beth! Don't worry about it. Take your time. There's no hurry. Take care! :)
@Mom Of Four: Hahaha. Natawa ako sa last sentence mo. :) Hi Liz! It's really frustrating. I've tried other ISP before but it wasn't really as problematic as this is. Not only does it disconnect, it goes on selective browsing too. But I'm learning to deal with it. Just wanna write it though so others would know. :)
@Clarissa: Hi Clarissa! :) Oo nga. Sinulat ko na lang so that others who are still scouting for ISP would know.
Have a nice day too! :)
I've got problems too with my internet connections, the less troubling kind though. I call it the cinderella syndrome. When I get home at 6pm and switched on my pc everything is fine. Until 12:30 am. Then it simply go bonkers on me, my broadband connection. You might think I'm slacking off, not caring to visit your blog. I do. Every time I type my comment I couln't get in...Oh, thanks for the mention. I'm thrilled. Hehehe. I'm at work, no I'm in the public market ostensibly to buy something for the office. But I'd just simply like to sneak in some comments here. :)
I understand how you feel Dee, I also use PLDT for my internet, I even called them numerous time the last time the connection is down.
sometimes I wonder If I switch back to BayanTel because if they wasn't able to fix their service within 24hrs you get P100 rebate everyday and that's a money in your pocket and lost money for their company and they will do everything to fix it before the said time.
Happy Valentine and thak you for always visiting my blog...
Have a nice day and keep on smiling...
Why don't you resort to cable? Cable is way much better than DSL. The only drawback to cable is when some storm disrupts power connection, there's no cable but storms are seasonal and do not happen frequently.
ah, so they aren't very stable yet. hopefully they'll be able to work out all the kinks in the future ;-)
@Jan: Hi Jan!:) Your internet connection too? Oh, I hope it isn't quite a headache as mine is. I wonder what's wrong with your internet connection...
Oh, thanks for visiting this humble site of mine regularly. I feel honored. Really. Have a great day! :)
@Richard: Hi Richard! Oh, I didn't know that's how Bayantel does it. Yes, I agree, the promise of paying P100 rebate everyday would make them provide a better service. I wish I've known that sooner because I would have chosen their service. I used Bayantel before when we lived in another city and had never had any single problem. Their speed too is much faster...
Happy Valentines Day, Richard, and take good care! :)
@Bingkee: Hi Bingkee! Oh, yes, that right! I'll definitely consider that the moment my contract with PLDT expires. Thanks for the tip! :)
@Caryn: Hi Caryn! Yes, hopefully. We're praying for that and that it will come soon. Have a great day! :)
