Living Green - a popular buzzword nowadays. It's not just another meaningless one, though. It's actually very important.
It isn't foreign these days that whenever we turn on the TV for news or read the newspapers that we hear how ice in the Arctic are melting, sea and ocean levels are rising, glaciers are retreating, and every other natural disasters and calamity are multiplying. Evidence shows that the earth's climate is getting warmer and the world's increasing population and industrialization are contributing to these changes.
Where does living green fit into this?
Living green means having a lifestyle that is eco-friendly because we know and understand that the Earth's natural resources are currently being depleted at an alarming rate which is faster than than the rate in which it is being replenished. It means making proactive choices everyday to do things that ensures that our planet would be kept in good condition in order for future generations to enjoy the benefits of clean water and air, a lot of green place, and good health; because the choices we make and the things that we do today have a large impact on the future.
Reducing, reusing, repairing and recycling are the four most important actions in choosing to live a greener lifestyle, because they have a strong effect on conserving the Earth's natural resources.
Our homes would be the best place to start because we have control over the choices we make in it. We can start by conserving water, being energy efficient, reducing waste, and buying products that are eco friendly.
Being energy efficient means not using more energy than what we necessarily have to including the very basic practice of turning off lights and other electric appliances when not in use.
Conservation of water is important because water too uses energy. By using just the necessary amount of water we need, not only do we conserve water itself, we also conserve the energy that it takes to bring us that water in the first place. Remember how we don't have water every time there is power outage? That's because it takes energy to pump water to our homes.
Buy products that are eco friendly and buy them from companies who have environment friendly practices and who are active in causes that protect and preserve the environment.
We make sure too that the products we buy have less paper or cardboard packaging. Less packaging means less trees that had been cut to produce that packaging. It also means less waste. It also helps a lot if the packaging can be reused or recycled such as plastic bags for trash. We check if our waste can still be recycled or reused by donating them to others.
It is also important to make our children a part of our green lifestyle by teaching them and making them adopt the same eco-friendly practices.
These doesn't even begin to cover all the different ways we can live green. But they're a good start.

thank you for posting an environment awareness article. it is nice to know someone who is pro active in starting environment awareness at home by involving one's family members. environment is a root of poverty and by addressing these issues, we can hopefully contribute in ensuring our children's future.
each and everyone of us can contribute to helping the environment. thanks for posting this. :)
The women in my family are by definition great environmentalists. They recycle gift wrappings, grocery plastic bags, tin cans of all sizes reused as pots for plants. Water are recycled to clean the yard.
My contribution? I don't watch television anymore to save up on electricity bills. But here's the catch - I'm on the desktop more. So I guess that's not fair trade off. The computer consumes a lot more electricity. Lol.
It will need sacrifices from people who care about the world and about others.
Sige, di na lang ako maliligo araw araw, hehehe...
But why do more and more people have become benumbed, and seem to harbor caloused indifference? Are we the species that self-destruct?
Thanks for this good reminder Dee.
i always wonder, perhaps the next generation will go thru such great sacrifices if we dont start acting now.
I am glad to read more and more people are getting involved in trying to make a difference in our world.
If we all work together, we might just save our planet. And I agree our homes is the best place to start.
Great post...keep it up!
Great post,Mommy Dee!!!Thanks for sharing them!
Dito sa Japan, uso ang 'my hashi'(bringing your own chopstick)and bringing eco bag. When your'e shopping into supermarkets, babayaran mo ang plastic bags na lalagyan ng pinamili mo kaya it's a way na rin for conservation ang ginagawa nila dito.pati ang basura nila dito, talagang naka bukod for recycle, minsan mahirap pero nakasanayan ko na rin ang mga ginagawa nila dito kasi lahat sila gumagawa.
Ngek!ang haba ng comment ko!!Have a nice day po!!Salamat po sa bisita!^_^
Water is the resource that I conserve the most. Air and water are the most essential to our survival and thus, the sight of a dripping faucet or a busted hydrant are things that bother me no end. I save on electricity too but I must admit that it's mostly motivated by economics.
Thank you very much for visiting my blog. Much appreciated. Take care. :)
Dito sa Pilipinas medyo mahirap talaga gawin yang living green na yan.Dami matigas ulo kahit i educate mo e wala sila pakialam kay mother earth.Nakakatakot isipin kung ano madadatnan ng future generation. Thanks for sharing this post!
