The Noticer: Review And Giveaway

The Review

The Noticer: Sometimes, all a person needs is a little perspective, is a beautiful book written by New York Times Bestselling Author Andy Andrews.

It tells the story of Jones, as he is oftentimes known to many, an old drifter who has the gift of noticing things around him which allows him to gain the appropriate perspective not only of his life and world but also of other people's. As such, he is able to provide wisdom and encouragement to people who find themselves in difficult situations, which wisdom and encouragement eventually enables them to gain a fresh and proper insight about those difficult states. The book is based on the premise that oftentimes we forget to notice the little but essential things in life because their familiarity somehow causes us to un-notice them. That if only we were able to notice them, then everything could have been simpler.

This book is absolutely brilliant. It is inspiring, insightful and thought provoking. I like how the author uses common sense wisdom that somehow gets often overlooked these days.

I believe this is a must-read for everyone and I highly recommend it. It isn't everyday that one comes across a book that shows one the ropes for changing one's life for the better, and The Noticer is certainly that - - life-changing.

i would like to win this contest and i deserve to take home this book because, i am man who likes the littles of things, contemplates the simplest of causalities and introspects the morsels of experiences so as i may share and become a good guide to the student volunteers that i handle here in our school. this book if given to me could give more depth in what i do and share. :D

like some cold-hearted person who refuse to be swayed by the surge of human emotions, i maintain a distance from people, be it family, friends or acquaintances that can be simply construed as utter indifference. they do not understand that it is the attention that i shun because it distracts me from reading the situation completely so i could know how to react properly when the situation calls for it.

my penchant for silence allows me to notice even the most unnoticeable, both verbal and non-verbal cues. as a social researcher, this allows me to push the right buttons in the field -- when to and not to offend people in the process of seeking their assistance to elicit the information needed. this also makes it easier for me to shift from one role to another --- from a detached 'outsider'/researcher to an involved person approached by some people in the community to listen or advise them on their domestic woes.

my silence and seeming detachment usher my willingness to be connected, to be involved with the lives of people who matter and make life bearable for me. these same silence and detachment allow me to step back, listen carefully, and yes, take notice when people around me realize that they could also call for me for anything afterall.

needless to say, i deserve to get this book. :)

What an interesting story. I think it's true that too often, we are so busy and caught up in our own lives that we tend to miss out on things that are right in front of us. Important things--beautiful things.

Some observations:

Peeps, how can Dee give you your prize? you're not giving her your contact info. :(

Dee, is it safe to leave an email address in the comment? Baka ma-harvest ng spammers?

Elmot: I think you need this book. Not only because you're my buddy but also because you need to be shooed away from "handling" student volunteers. This book will distract your attention and give you some useful things to do beside tweeting in the office. ",)

Fifi: You're a detached observer already, nothing seems to escape your attention. Winning the book seems an overkill. Just saying. lol.

I don't think I can join. I can't think of a good reason eh. Maybe at the last minute, I might come up with something. ",)

Just pulling your legs, guys. Go, go, go. Sino man manalo, pahiram na lang ng book.

word verification says "dephanti"

I passed on the Battlefield, but I definitely do not want to pass on this one.

This looks like a really good book that can help me.

I have a pessimist/optimist split-type of personality that I often switch from one to another without even me noticing it.

I do try to notice the 'little things' but sometimes, it's the 'even smaller things' that trouble me and overshadow those little things.

I really needed to be put in my proper place :)
