April 22, 2009 is Earth day. Unfortunately, and much to my regret, I wasn't able to make a post honoring Mother Earth on that day. So when Mommy Jac of Mom's Special Diary invited me to participate in her I Love Mother Earth meme, I gladly grabbed the chance to rectify my oversight.
These are the rules of the meme:
- Click the badge and get the code then put the logo on your blog sidebar and post.
- Tell us what is your contribution to our planet? You live here, for sure you've got something to share! Post any pictures or share some of your ideas on how to help and save out planet Earth.
- Post this rules.
- Share this meme-tag to as many Blogger as you can think.
My contribution to protecting and saving the earth consists of: using environment-friendly shopping bags; conserving energy and water; recycling; carpooling; walking to the nearest store instead of driving, to save on gas; using rechargeable batteries; teaching my son the same and more ways to help protect and save planet Earth through books and example.
Here's one of the lovely poems that perfectly fits the Earth Day celebration:
I think that I shall never see
Trees
by Joyce Kilmer
A poem lovely as a tree.A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
A tree that looks at God all day,
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;A tree that may in summer wear
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
A nest of robins in her hair;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

I remember we had to memorize that poem in grade 3. It's also one of The Platters' song.

Hi BlogusVox! :)
It's one of the Platters' song?! I didn't know that. Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely check it out!
I love this poem because it's simple, simply said, but it has a deeper meaning. But I can't remember learning it in grade school. Buti ka pa, you learned it in grade school already. I learned it later na and I found that I like it. :)

Grade school? I've come across this poem in kinder. lols. I'm just kidding. High school it was - I remembered it because we're made to memorize it. And that took the joy out of it. It's only years later when I reread it when I've come to fully appreciate its magnificence.
Incidentally, where's the ad for Kindle2 here. It's a question I mean to ask you, but I always forget. :-P

Not to be pushy or anything: may I request that the link to my blog be updated? Thanks, Dee.

btw,not late--eco week ngayon sa Japan^_^

Haha! I have actually saved this poem for my Arbor Day post. This is my favorite poem since grade school. In fact, its song version would always play in my head like in an audio loop. Must be that interpretative dance our P. E. teacher taught...

I love that poem, even up to now. It's so meaningful and true. Maintaining your small corner clean and green is one way to love mother earth. These simple little things would make a great difference when accumulated. We should love mother earth back.

I know this poem. We were asked to memorize it when we were in grade school. Until now memorize ko pa.
I'm using eco bags. All of us should start using eco bags. One of the good ways to minimize the trash.

Yes, it's a fantastic poem. Reminds me of God's magnificence.
Oh, that (Kindle2)! I took it off because it reminds me of what I cannot have. Yet. Haha! Kidding! It's an ad so it come and goes! :)

Yes, it's simple, and you're right, it's meaningful and true. And yes, we need to love mother earth back. I think it's the only way she'll love us back. :)
Oh, eco bags are great! It's one way of re-using. :)

hi Dee!
It's never too late to do something for Mother Earth, we can do our share anytime as long as we do it with our hearts desire.
Thanks for this simple gesture...it'll surely influence people reading your blog.
Btw, try visiting Haribon's site www.haribon.org.ph, there's other ways one can do to save the environment, especially ours :)

Well, it will just be a one-liner Dee. That's what I am only capable of. ",) Arbor Day originated in Nebraska but later on gained international observance. It's a holiday in which individuals or groups are encouraged to plant trees. In the Philippines, Arbor Day is observed every June 25. You may refer to Proclamation No. 643.
