With lots of blogs and other web sites sprouting left and right these days, and every one of them competing to get attention and be read, it is just understandable that you would want to increase your own blog's visibility. By the word "increase", I am referring to having a lot of traffic, increasing your different rankings and getting to the top.
A good way to be read and get visible is thru a web directory. What is a web directory, you would say? As its name implies, a web directory is a directory of what is in the web. Think of it as something like a phone book directory. Just like your usual phone book directory, a web directory lists web sites, articles and links into categories to enable you to easily find any information that you need. A web directory is searchable. Thus, if you want to search for web sites under a certain category, you can go visit a web directory. When you are there, go look for that category and when you have found that category, you can then see all the web sites that belong to such category. You can now start going over and choosing the web sites that you would like to visit. Examples of web directories are Yahoo directory, Jasmine directory, DMOZ, and Max directory.
Now, how can a web directory help your site get more traffic and earn a high ranking, like a high page rank for instance? When you list your site to web directories, you get to back link your site. Especially if you submit your site to a web directory with a high page rank, in all likelihood, search engines will think that your site is an important one as it is linked with such high ranking web directory site.
Another advantage of listing in web directories is of course getting visible. Let us say that someone is looking for web sites about technology and goes to a web directory to do his research. If your site is about technology and you were listed in that web directory under that category, then chances are that he will see your site and visit it. It is a source of traffic for your site.
A web directory has other advantages as well, but the two listed above can boost your site's traffic and may earn you good rankings.

Hay, naku, this reminds me to make web directory submissions. Isa pa lang nagawa ko - un pag update sa Blog Catalog. Ito naman Technorati parang ungas laging nag eeror pag sinusubmit ko un new domain ko. Ano kayang problem dun? Dee, email mo naman ako. May gusto lang akong iparating sayo, kung puede.
