Remember how there's this joke about what's your favorite subject in school. Someone asks you what your favorite subject is and you think about it seriously before you give your answer and after you do, you then asks that person back what his favorite subject is and then he jestingly tells you it is recess! And of course the two of you have a good laugh over it because recess isn't actually a subject! I don't know if you do remember that, much less experienced it, but I went through those times more than once. The second time someone asked me that question, though, I was less gullible than I was before, but I still played along with it.
Anyway, I couldn't help but remember about it because I just learned that recess is quite important. A study suggests that recess is an important factor in a child's learning and should be made a part of an educational system. Kids who get a minimum of 20 minutes break a day perform better in school than those who do not. It further suggests that breaks should be unstructured wherein kids can freely interact with each other and develop their creative skills.
I think most schools nowadays do implement recess or breaks every school day. But it doesn't really hurt if you double-check if your child's school does. After all, whatever work best for our kids is always worth the effort.
