ALPO Helps Dogs Be Dogs

I love dogs. They're not called man's best friend for nothing - they're loyal, true and protective. Mine's all that, and with boundless energy and playfulness to boot. She always makes my day brighter.

The results of a recent national survey of American dog owners shows that most pamper their pooches with simple joys such as walks, games of fetch and belly rubs, to name a few. No need for designer clothes and doggie day care and spas. As a matter of fact, the new survey further shows that:

• "Just two percent of dog owners say they have ever pampered their pooches by taking them to a doggie spa and only one percent says they have ever pampered their dog with a professional massage.
  
• "When it comes to doing special things for their four-legged friends, 79 percent of dog owners say they feed their dogs treats, 73 percent say they give them belly rubs and 69 percent take them for walks.
  
• "When asked when their dog is happiest, 62 percent of owners say it is greeting them when they come home."

In celebration of a practical approach to taking care of our dogs, ALPO is hosting a contest known as ALPO Real Dogs Tell It Like It Is Contest (www.ALPOTellItLikeItIs.com). This contest runs until September 28, 2009 and is looking for real dogs who want to share their stories about their favorite real dog behaviors such as chasing a ball, rolling in the mud, drooling for dinner or any other fun, real dog behaviors. The 20 lucky pooches winners will have their tales published on a manual on how to help dogs be dogs.
